Our dentist, Dr. Don Niu, will often recommend traditional braces to correct misaligned teeth. Braces will gradually provide you with a more appealing smile and reduce your chances of suffering from damaged teeth and lost tooth enamel. This is done through a series of regularly scheduled appointments at which your braces will be adjusted. Each of these  appointments will adjust the  tension to gradually stretch the periodontal connective tissues that anchor your teeth in their sockets.
Throughout the realignment process, it’s important to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Inflamed periodontal tissues could cause mild discomfort after an adjustment. Brushing each morning and night, as well as thoroughly flossing your teeth at least once each day will help maintain healthy gums and prevent cavities.
If you find it challenging to clean around your braces, might be helpful to use waxed dental floss or a floss threader. A floss threader can help make sure that the floss can reach difficult areas to remove plaque and food residue. You also need to make a conscious effort to floss behind each of your molars. This area can trap bacterial deposits that could significantly impact the health of your teeth and gums.
