Choosing Implants or Bridges

Posted .

Having teeth replaced is a bittersweet experience. On one hand, it’s great to finally have teeth that work properly again. It can also be frustrating to have let your oral health get to this point, though.

When you get to this point, you’ll have a few different options to choose from for your new teeth. It’s hard to decide when you have so many great choices. Let’s look at two of the more popular options – implants and bridges.

Implants
A dentist will likely recommend implants if you have the gum and jaw bone health necessary to support them. Implants are simply titanium posts inserted directly into your gums. After that, the posts are covered up with a dental crown. Dr. Don Niu and associates will take care of the entire process.

Bridges
Bridges are a great option if you have multiple teeth to replace, and they’re next to each other. A dental bridge uses surrounding healthy teeth to support a new crown in place of your lost tooth. Instead of getting something inserted into your gums, like an implant, a bridge uses other teeth to help support it.

Which is best?
Implants aren’t inherently better than bridges, and vice versa. However, for some people, one option is better than the other. All it will take is one visit with the team here at Irvine Dental Group in Irvine, California, to determine which choice is best for you.
